Fixing Squeaky RV Faucets & Taps
RV plastic and brass faucet handles often develop annoying squeaks or become stiff to turn as factory lubricants wash away over time. High mineral content in hard water speeds up friction wear along inner stem O-rings.
Step-by-Step Faucet Stem Service
- Shut off the 12V water pump and disconnect city water pressure. Open a faucet to relieve pressure.
- Pry off the small hot/cold indicator cap on top of the faucet handle to expose the retaining screw.
- Unscrew the handle retaining screw and lift the handle straight off the valve stem.
- Unscrew the valve bonnet nut using an adjustable wrench and extract the inner stem cartridge.
- Inspect rubber O-rings for cracking. If worn, replace with a fresh RV faucet replacement cartridge.
- Apply a generous coating of food-grade, waterproof plumber's silicone grease to all rubber O-rings and threads.
- Reassemble the stem, bonnet nut, handle, and cap. Restore water pressure and check for smooth operation.
- Unscrew and clear scale off the faucet spout aerator using an aerator cleaning tool.
